MARTIN BEZUIDENHOUT

Founder and Director of Esicongweni Environmental Services (EES)

B.Eng in Chemical Engineering

Martin Bezuidenhout, founder and director of Esicongweni Environmental Services (EES), is an experienced environmental professional with over 25 years in environmental management and engineering.​ After earning his B.Eng in Chemical Engineering from Potchefstroom University (1995) and completing the Management Advancement Programme at Wits Business School (2003), Martin built a career across leading industrial and environmental roles. He began as a Chemical Engineer at Iscor (1996–1997), later serving as Environmental Engineer and Manager at Mittal Steel/ArcelorMittal South Africa (1999–2007), where he oversaw environmental departments, ISO14001 certification, land management, and large-scale rehabilitation projects.

In 2007, Martin established EES, transforming his role at ArcelorMittal into a consultancy partnership. Since then, he has led the company in delivering services including environmental compliance monitoring, audits, authorizations, waste management, rehabilitation, and project management for clients across South Africa.​ His career highlights include:

  • Managing multi-million-rand environmental projects, such as waste disposal facilities, rehabilitation of contaminated land, and water treatment plants.

  • Extensive expertise in ISO14001 implementation and auditing.

  • Strong track record in stakeholder engagement and negotiations with government authorities to secure environmental approvals.

  • Building and managing diverse teams across engineering, technical, and environmental disciplines.

With a passion for practical, cost-effective solutions, Martin continues to position EES as a trusted consultancy that balances business needs with environmental responsibility.

SHARON BEZUIDENHOUT

Microbiologist, Laboratory Scientist and Researcher

BSc. Microbiology & Biochemistry

Sharon Bezuidenhout holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Biochemistry. She began her career as a Microbiologist at Silicon Technology (Pty) Ltd in Newcastle, where she gained over a decade of hands-on experience in laboratory work, research, and quality assurance. This strong foundation in applied science prepared her for the next chapter of her career.

In 2007, Sharon joined EES, where she has since become an integral part of the team. With her scientific expertise and extensive industry background, she brings both technical insight and a deep commitment to excellence.

At EES, Sharon oversees the company’s finances, laboratory operations, and administration, ensuring that each area runs smoothly and effectively. Her leadership and meticulous attention to detail play a vital role in maintaining the high standards and reliability that clients and partners have come to expect.

Sharon’s long-standing dedication and multi-faceted role make her a cornerstone of EES’s success, bridging scientific knowledge with operational excellence.

Joshua Pienaar

EES Site Manager

BBA Degree in Project Management

Joshua Pienaar is the EES Site Manager at ArcelorMittal South Africa’s Salvage Yard. Joshua led operations focused on recycling, waste management, and plant cleanliness, ensuring efficiency and sustainability on a day-to-day basis. Joshua manages a team consisting of Bale Operators, Drivers and Recyclers. Joshua also does project management for various ad-hoc projects in EES.

Joshua holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Project Management and have a strong passion for connecting with people, building relationships, and driving results. Joshua also has a passion for sales, where he combines his leadership experience with a people-focused approach.
